Sequoia Capital Names Roelof Botha as New Global Leader
News Synopsis
Roelof Botha, a partner at Sequoia Capital who heads the USA and European operations of the company, will be the new global leader of the company. Mr Botha is taking over Doug Leone and despite succeeding him, Mr Botha will carry a different title. He will be the senior steward of its global brand and operations.
Dough Leone will continue as the general partner at the firm, working with the funds Sequoia already has in place. The changing of the guard follows a two year transition period, both Botha and Leone said.
Botha, 48, is a member of the "PayPal Mafia," a group of early executives and workers from Silicon Valley's digital payments company who found and invested in other successful startups. He served as the Chief Financial Officer at PayPal at the time. Three years later in 2003, he left the company to join Sequoia Capital as a partner.
After resigning from Sequoia's top leader, Leone would stay on the boards he currently serves on. He will also join the board of directors of an unspecified faculty at Stanford University.
