Restoration Of Passenger Trains By Northeast Frontier Railway
News Synopsis
The Northeast Frontier Railway has decided to resume the service of passenger-carrying trains that were previously suspended because of breaches in multiple locations of the Lumding division. Badarpur segment falls under the Lumding Division.
Railway officials were on the job day and night to bring the national transportation system on tracks in these areas to ensure that the scarcity of vital things in states like Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Barak valleys can be avoided.
Following 70 days, train services for passengers are scheduled to resume. In the hill region under the Lumding Division, both freight and passenger train services were suspended due to massive rains and landslides that occurred on May 14. Due to the unprecedented landslides caused by heavy rain since the beginning of May 13, extensive destruction has occurred to railway tracks and stations across 61 sites along the NFR's Lumding-Badarpur single railway line.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (abbreviated NFR), is one of the 18 railway zones of the Indian Railways. It is headquartered in Maligaon, Guwahati in the state of Assam, and responsible for operation and expansion of rail network all across Northeastern states and some districts of eastern Bihar and northern West Bengal.
