Matchbox Prices Increase After 14 Years, Cost Rs.2 From December

The prices of matchboxes are increasing for the first time in 14 years. The matchbox which costs Rs. 1 currently will increase to Rs. 2 from December this year. This increase in the prices is happening due to the increase in the cost of raw materials of the matches.
The cost of raw materials used in the production of matches like red phosphorus, potassium chlorate, splints, along with the cost of fuels has seen a rise. The manufacturers have said that they will review the situation in six months. Previously, the rise in the prices of Matchbox was seen in 2007, when the prices were raised to Rs. 1 from 50 paise. In India, Tamil Nadu is the leading manufacturer of matchboxes and around five lakh people are dependent on the matchbox industry directly and indirectly.
