Maruti Suzuki To Cut October Output By 40% Due To Semiconductor Shortage

In October, the car industry leader expects overall production at all of its manufacturing facilities to be 60% of normal. This is a marginal improvement above the September output level of 40%. Production will be curtailed by 50% on average in September and October at the automaker. The overall output of the firm and SMG in July was 170,719 units. Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) has announced that due to a semiconductor shortage, it will shut down manufacturing for three consecutive Saturdays in August and may reduce operations to just one shift. This was the first time India's largest car-maker had mentioned a production concern caused by a lack of semi-conductors. The output reduction comes just before the start of the holiday season, which starts on October 7.
