Madhabi Puri Buch appointed as the chairperson of SEBI

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), on Monday, announced that it has appointed Madhabi Puri Buch as the chairperson of SEBI. She will hold the responsibility of the chairperson of SEBI for a period of three years. Ajay Tyagi left his role as the chairperson of SEBI two days back on February 28th. In an official notification released after the appointment, the Government stated: "The Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved the appointment of Madhabi Puri Buch, former Whole Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), to the post of Chairman, Securities, and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), initially for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.” Last year government issued a notification and invited application for the post of chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India. Prior to being appointed as the chairperson of SEBI Madhabi Puri has worked with ICICI bank for twelve years. From 1997 to 2002 she was the head of marketing and sales, then for a year she was the head of Product development, then for the next two years, she headed the operations of the bank and then from 2006 to 2009 she was the Executive Director. After that for two years from 2009 to 2011, she served as the CEO of ICICI Securities.
