This new service supports multiple languages, including English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Korean, and offers reservations at over 35,000 restaurants, making it the largest of its kind in Japan.

Multilingual Reservation Service

The Tabelog online reservation service aims to provide a convenient way for the increasing number of international visitors to Japan to find and reserve dining options.

The service is available in English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Korean. According to internal research as of June 26, 2024, Tabelog is the largest restaurant reservation service in Japan offering instant reservations for visitors.

Features of Tabelog’s Service

The main features of Tabelog’s reservation service include:

  • Search Functionality: Users can search for restaurants based on location, cuisine, budget, and the desired date and time of reservation.

  • Detailed Information: The platform provides comprehensive details about each restaurant, including menus, photos, and reviews from Japanese users.

  • Reservation Availability: Users can check availability using a calendar function and make online reservations directly through Tabelog.

Reservation Requirements and Fees

Online reservations through Tabelog are currently available only for set menus and require credit card registration. There is a system usage fee of 440 yen (including tax) per person per reservation.

Addressing the Needs of International Visitors

Taku Kounoike, Head of Tabelog, highlighted the current challenges faced by international visitors in making restaurant reservations in Japan. With the country expected to attract over 3 million visitors in May 2024, up 60% from the previous year, there is a clear need for more restaurants equipped to communicate with and take reservations from overseas visitors.

Kounoike expressed Tabelog's commitment to showcasing a diverse range of excellent restaurants across Japan and enhancing the travel experience by enabling convenient online reservations.
