News Synopsis

San Francisco, CA - YouTube has named Neal Mohan as its new CEO, replacing Susan Wojcicki, who has served in the position for almost eight years. Mohan, an Indian-American, has been with Google since 2008 and most recently served as YouTube's Chief Product Officer.

As Chief Product Officer, Mohan led the development of YouTube's subscription service, YouTube Premium, as well as the company's music and gaming verticals. Mohan has also been instrumental in growing YouTube's advertising revenue, which is the company's main source of income.

"Neal is an exceptional leader who has been instrumental in shaping YouTube's success over the years," said Wojcicki in a statement. "I am confident that under his leadership, YouTube will continue to thrive and innovate."

Mohan's appointment comes at a time when YouTube is facing increasing scrutiny over its content moderation practices, particularly around misinformation and hate speech. The company has also faced criticism over the way it handles content from young users, including allegations that it has allowed harmful content to be recommended to children.

"I am honored and humbled to take on this role at such a pivotal moment for YouTube," said Mohan. "I am committed to working closely with our teams and our partners to continue to build a platform that is inclusive, transparent, and responsible."

Mohan's appointment as YouTube's new CEO is effective immediately. Susan Wojcicki will remain at Google and will take on a new role within the company.
