HCL founder Shiv Nadar turns 77

Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, has turned 77 today. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award, India's third highest civilian award, for his contribution to the IT sector. Let us tell you that Shiv Nadar is India's leading IT businessman and philanthropist. He is the co-founder of HCL, the country's fourth largest IT service provider.

He is also the chairman of $7.5 billion (revenue) HCL Technologies. According to the Forbes list released in April 2017, he is the 7th richest person in the country and the 102nd richest person in the world. According to Forbes, his net worth as of 6 January 2018 is $ 13.9 billion. Born on 14 July 1945 in Tiruchendur of Tamil Nadu, Nadar worked in Tamil Nadu's DCM company till 1968. In August 1976 he founded HCL Enterprises in a garage with Rs 1.87 lakhs

In 1980, he made HCL an international company by opening the first branch in Singapore and earned 10 lakh rupees in the first year. HCL generates 80 per cent of its revenue from computers and office equipment.

Shiv Nadar also founded the HCL Foundation which focuses on reducing poverty and achieving inclusive growth in health, education, environment and disaster risk reduction and response sectors. In 1981, with the help of Shiv Nadar, NIIT was established. In 1996, he established SSN College of Engineering in Tamil Nadu. Significantly, Shiv Nadar was recognized as the 'Most Generous Indian' as he topped the Hurun India Philanthropy list in 2006 for his donation of Rs 630 crore.
