Driving Forces Behind the PLI Schemes
The primary objectives behind implementing the PLI Schemes are multifold: to attract investments in key sectors and cutting-edge technologies, foster operational efficiency, and bring forth economies of size and scale within the manufacturing domain.
A core ambition of these schemes is to propel Indian companies and manufacturers to a globally competitive level.
These schemes possess immense potential to trigger a substantial surge in production, employment, and overall economic growth over the next five years.
Each of the 14 sectors targeted by the PLI Schemes has been officially notified by the respective Ministries and Departments, receiving the green light for implementation.
Cascading Impact on MSMEs
Anticipated as a catalyst for transformation, the PLI scheme is projected to have a cascading impact on India's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) ecosystem. The projected anchor units established in each sector are expected to lay the foundation for an expanded supplier and vendor network across the value chain. This development is likely to predominantly manifest within the MSME sector. Out of the 733 applications selected under various PLI Schemes, an impressive 176 MSMEs are poised to be among the beneficiaries. These encompass sectors spanning Bulk Drugs, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, Telecom, White Goods, Food Processing, Textiles, and Drones.
Rigorous Selection and Planning Process
Each of the approved sectors aligns with the overarching criteria of spotlighting key technologies that offer India the opportunity to leapfrog and augment employment, exports, and broader economic advantages. These sectors underwent stringent evaluation and validation by NITI Aayog, followed by meticulous consultations with the pertinent Ministries and Departments. Importantly, as of now, the Union Cabinet has not endorsed any proposal to introduce additional sectors under the PLI Schemes.
A Significant Move Towards Self-Reliance
The Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Shri Som Parkash, furnished these details in a written reply presented in the Lok Sabha.
This announcement signifies a monumental stride towards realizing India's aspiration for self-reliance and robust industrial growth.
