Canada to Suspend Covid Vaccine Mandate

The Federal Government of Canada has announced that it will suspend vaccination requirements for Covid for domestic and international travel, government-regulated transportation, and federal employees from 20 June. The immunization regulations at the border remain in force, according to a joint press release by the federal government department on Tuesday.

This policy change will allow unvaccinated Canadians to board planes, trains, and buses to domestic or international destinations, but current inspections for re-entry from international destinations must meet quarantine requirements.

Vaccination requirements for foreigners entering Canada have not changed. Foreigners who are not fully vaccinated are still not allowed to enter Canada. Unvaccinated foreign nationals can leave Canada by plane or train under the new policy, even after domestic mandates have been suspended.

A total of 32 million people, or nearly 90% of eligible Canadians, have been vaccinated with COVID-19, and the number of cases is declining. Hospitalization and mortality rates are also declining nationwide, the release said.
