Bodhi Tree Systems Invests $600 Million in Allen Career

News Synopsis

The Bodhi Tree System, a newly formed platform backed by James Murdoch and former broadcaster executive Uday Shanker, will invest $600 million in the Allen Career Institute, a test preparation company.

Bodhi has acquired a minority stake in Allen, and according to sources, the test preparation business is well worth over $1 billion. Allen's founder, the Maheshwari family, will continue to take control and run the business.

Keshav Maheshwari, a member of the Maheshwari family who founded the Allen Career Institute, said the investment would help Allen's Indian business through technology and expand its base in the Middle East.

This is Bodhi Tree’s second investment in a week, Earlier in February, Bodhi Tree Systems secured a $1.5 billion investment from Qatar’s sovereign fund Qatar Investment Authority

EY acted as an exclusive financial adviser. Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas provided Allen with legal advice and documentation support, and AZB & Partners was Bodhi Tree's legal advisor.

Founded in 2021 by Murdoch’s Lupa Systems and Shankar, the platform invests in consumer technology in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, especially in India.
