News Synopsis

On Wednesday, Blinkit, a Zomato-owned quick commerce platform, unveiled its new seller program, Seller Hub, aimed at simplifying the onboarding process for brands and sellers. The move was announced by Blinkit's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Sajal Gupta, in a LinkedIn post. The Seller Hub is modeled after Amazon's widely successful Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) model, reflecting Blinkit's ambition to establish itself as a dominant player in the fast-growing quick commerce space.

The Seller Hub provides a seamless self-service experience for brands and sellers who want to list their products on Blinkit's platform. It eliminates the need for intermediaries, giving sellers direct control over inventory management, product availability, pricing, catalog management, and advertising options.

Sajal Gupta expressed the company's vision to build a seller program in quick commerce that outperforms its competitors. "We want to create a seller programme in quick commerce that is significantly better than any other, and our benchmark has always been the OG, FBA Amazon," said Blinkit's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Sajal Gupta. “To that end, we have launched Blinkit Seller Hub (seller.blinkit.com) to make selling via Blinkit completely self-serve for brands, without the need to interface with any intermediary or with us (of course, we are here if brands need us)."

The platform is already making strides, with over 200 brands having access to their Seller Hub. The company is gradually rolling out the service to more brands, following document verification. "We believe we can serve the community of brands better by building tech that gives them more power and control over their quick commerce presence," Gupta added.

Key Features of Blinkit’s Seller Hub

  • Self-Service Platform: Brands can now onboard themselves without the need for intermediaries.

  • Inventory and Availability Management: Sellers can manage stock availability across Blinkit’s dark stores.

  • Advertising Tools: Blinkit provides sellers with the ability to manage promotions and advertising directly through the Seller Hub.

  • Streamlined Catalog and Pricing Management: Brands can update their product offerings and prices effortlessly.

Blinkit's New 10-Minute Return Policy for Clothing and Footwear

In an effort to expand its services and address the key pain points faced by online shoppers, Blinkit recently introduced a 10-minute return and exchange service for clothing and footwear. Available in select Indian cities, this feature is aimed at resolving the common issues of size and fit that customers often encounter with online fashion purchases.

Blinkit’s Rapid Expansion of Dark Stores and Delivery Network

Blinkit has been on a steady growth trajectory, with significant expansion in its infrastructure and services. As of September 30, the company operated 791 dark stores—micro-warehouses designed to facilitate its promise of 10-minute deliveries. This marks a sharp increase from 639 dark stores at the end of June. The firm aims to grow this number to 1,000 stores by the end of the current financial year, with plans to expand to 2,000 dark stores by 2026.

In its latest quarterly report for July-September, Blinkit revealed that it delivered 92.9 million orders and achieved a gross order value (GOV) of over Rs 6,000 crore. The company is also focusing on expanding its reach into tier-II and tier-III cities, signaling its intent to tap into a wider customer base across India.

Conclusion

Blinkit's launch of the Seller Hub marks a significant step forward in empowering brands and sellers in the fast-growing quick commerce space. By offering a self-service platform modeled after Amazon’s successful FBA program, Blinkit is providing businesses with greater control over their inventory, pricing, and advertising strategies. The platform not only simplifies the onboarding process but also enhances the overall experience for sellers, aligning with Blinkit’s broader goal of delivering a superior seller program.

In addition to the Seller Hub, Blinkit continues to innovate with consumer-focused features like its 10-minute return policy for fashion items, addressing common pain points in online shopping. As the company rapidly expands its network of dark stores and delivers millions of orders, Blinkit is positioning itself as a formidable player in the quick commerce sector. With ambitious plans to expand into tier-II and tier-III cities, the company is set to strengthen its market presence and meet the growing demands of customers across India.
