Apple Users Urged To Update To Newest Versions To Prevent Hacking
News Synopsis
Users of iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Safari are urged to update their devices to the most recent versions in order to close security gaps that could be exploited to take control of a device. Apple released operating system updates to the impacted devices on Wednesday and Thursday in order to fix the vulnerabilities.
Apple stated that processing maliciously engineered web content might result in arbitrary code execution and that a "application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges" while describing the weaknesses in its security upgrades. The business added that it was aware of a claim that these flaws may have been actively used against users.
Users are advised to update their devices by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which also cautioned that "an attacker might exploit one of these vulnerabilities to seize control of an affected device."
The following models are affected for iOS/iPadOS users: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 4, and iPod touch (7th generation). Users should update their OS to iOS/iPadOS 15.6.1 to fix the vulnerabilities. Users of macOS Monterey are urged to update to version 12.5.1 of the operating system. Users of macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina should update to version 15.6.1 of Safari as well.
Users of the iPhone and iPad should navigate to Settings, General, and Software Upgrade to update their devices. You'll either be informed that your OS is current or asked to install the most recent update. Users of Macs would pick About this Mac by clicking the Apple icon in the upper-left corner, and then click the Software Update option. Your Mac will either let you know it is up to date or prompt you to download and install the most recent update. Additionally, upgrading to the most recent version of the operating system automatically updates Safari for users of macOS Big Sur or macOS Catalina.
