Rear Seatbelt Will Not Be Negligent In Ola, Uber Cabs

App-based cab services makers Ola and Uber have asked their drivers in India to wear seatbelts in the backseat and ensure that passengers do not face any difficulty in using them. Recently, after the death of a big businessman in a road accident near Palghar in Maharashtra, the central government has taken strict steps regarding the rear seatbelt.

Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry died earlier this month after his Mercedes car hit a divider. There are reports that he was sitting in the back seat and was not wearing a seatbelt. A team of experts from Mercedes Benz has also reached out to investigate this accident. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on the accident said that there is a need to change the mindset of the people to increase road safety. He said, “People think that those in the back seat do not need seatbelts. This is a problem. Those in both the front and back seats need to wear seat belts. I traveled in the cars of four chief ministers. I was in the front seat and I came to know that there is a clip that does not sound the alarm if I do not use the belt. I have banned such clips."

In an advisory to its drivers, Uber said in a report from Reuters: “To avoid fines or complaints from passengers, please ensure that the seatbelt in the back seat is working and passengers are using it.” can.” A source with knowledge of this said that the company is investigating at airports whether its drivers are following the seatbelt rule or not.

Uber has not commented on this. Its competitor Ola also recently sent an advisory to its drivers asking them to follow the seatbelt rule. There is already a rule for wearing seatbelt for passengers sitting in the backseat in the country, but very few people follow it.
