USA Imports Of Clothing From Bangladesh Increased By 53.54%
News Synopsis
Bangladesh, which ranks as the third-largest source of apparel imports for the USA, saw a rise in apparel imports from that country of 53.54% in the period from January to August 2021 compared to that same period in 2021.
According to data recently issued by the US's official source "Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA)," Bangladesh's imports from the rest of the world increased by 37.35% during the same time period.
The USA imported clothing from Bangladesh worth $6.64 billion between January and August 2022.
The USA's imports from China during the first eight months of 2022 increased by 37.17% and totaled $15.56 billion. Vietnam's imports were up 33.62% year over year at $12.80 billion at the same time.
India, Indonesia, Cambodia, South Korea, and Pakistan were among the top ten countries supplying clothing to the United States, with corresponding increases in imports of 56.90%, 56.48%, 51.64%, 42.96%, and 42.16% year on year.
The import data shows that the US retail sector is quickly recovering from the COVID-19 problem. This depicts Bangladesh's dramatically rising exports up until July 2022.
Due to the weak global economy and rising inflation, it is not anticipated that US import growth will pick up so quickly in the current month and move forward.
According to the OTEXA report, since Bangladesh's RMG export continued to expand positively through August, this will reflect in the United States' imports in September. As a result, some rise may be seen in US imports from Bangladesh in September. But it's likely that US imports from Bangladesh will experience negative growth in that month.
