TikTok To Release New Feature "TikTok Shop" Across North America
News Synopsis
In collaboration with the US business TalkShopLive, TikTok is getting ready to roll out a new feature called "TikTok Shop" across North America, according to a report. This feature will be in charge of supporting livestreams presented by influencers and brands. According to the report, TikTok will roll out this new function "over the next month" and major businesses will be involved in the launch.
The new feature follows the release of a similar one by TikTok's sister app Douyin, which is greatly popular in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Douyin hosted nine million live eCommerce broadcasts each month, resulting in the sale of more than ten billion products annually.
Despite TikTok's sister app's success, TikTok Shop hasn't been well received in the regions it has already been released in (United Kingdom), prompting the business to postpone the feature's rollout across Europe. Notably, "no contracts have been signed," and negotiations between the pertinent parties are still ongoing, so nothing is final as of yet.
Simply put, TikTok told the outlet that when it comes to TikTok Shop expansion, the company is driven by demand and constantly exploring new possibilities to better serve its community, creators, and merchants from all parts of the world.
