ITC Started A Food Production Facility In Telangana
News Synopsis
The ITC began operating a cutting-edge integrated food manufacturing and logistics facility at Medak on Monday, giving Telangana's food processing industry a boost. This food processing complex, which occupies roughly 59 acres of land and has a built-up size of 6.5 lakh square feet, required an initial investment of Rs 450 crore.
Aashirvaad atta, Sunfeast cookies, Bingo chips, and Yippee Noodles, among others, will be produced at the plant in phases. K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister of Industries and Commerce for Telangana, inaugurated the facility along with Sanjiv Puri, the Chairman and Managing Director of ITC.
Puri stated that ITC continues to expand its presence in the manufacturing, services, and agricultural sectors. He added that ITC has India's largest paperboard factory at Bhadrachalam and that Telangana is a center for the company's paperboard business.
"Hyderabad is also host to two of our finest luxury hotels, ITC Kakatiya and ITC Kohinoor." according to Puri. He said that the manufacturing facility in Medak will have a total built-up area of a million square feet once the second phase of construction is complete.
Jobs will be created by the factory along sustainable agri-value chains. The rooftop solar energy modules of the Medak unit will produce clean energy to power it. The factory has a scientifically designed rainwater harvesting system that ensures maximum conservation and less reliance on groundwater, thereby significantly reducing the unit's environmental impact. The building has been certified as a platinum-level green building by the Indian Green Building Council.
The Medak plant will have a worker composition that is consistent with ITC's efforts to increase the engagement of women, with this facility employing 50% women across the board in manufacturing.
According to Rama Rao, the government is setting up special zones for food processing on 10,000 acres of land, and one such zone with a total area of 1,400 acres is developing in Gajwel.
