News Synopsis

Last year, Samsung hinted at impressive new AI features in its Galaxy S24 models to enhance smartphone capabilities. One of these standout features is the Live Translate tool, which provides instant translation between various languages.

Initially integrated into Samsung applications and devices, there has always been a plan to extend this functionality to third-party applications. Now, it appears that WhatsApp will be the first third-party app to benefit from this feature.

Reports indicate that Samsung is set to integrate the AI-powered Live Translate tool into WhatsApp, although the exact timeline for this addition remains unclear. Samsung has also mentioned that other applications will receive Live Translate capabilities, but specific apps have not been named yet.

Expanding Live Translate to VoIP Applications

Sources suggest that while Samsung has not explicitly mentioned which apps will be included in the rollout of the new feature, it is anticipated that popular VoIP calling applications like Google Meet, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp will be incorporated.

This move is expected to significantly enhance the user experience by providing seamless real-time translation during calls and text exchanges on these platforms.

Introduction of Galaxy AI Features

Earlier this year, Samsung launched Galaxy AI, a suite of artificial intelligence features powered by Google's Gemini foundational models. The Galaxy AI collection includes new generative AI-supported tools for video, text, and image editing.

Among these, the Live Translate tool stands out as one of the most valuable, offering hands-free translation during VoIP calls and text messages with support for 13 languages. The tool also features a standalone interpreter for quick audio translations, already integrated into Samsung's texts and calls.

Integration with Galaxy Buds Series

The Live Translate tool is set to be incorporated into Samsung's Buds series, including the Galaxy Buds 2, Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and Galaxy Buds FE.

A forthcoming firmware upgrade is expected to enable these buds to utilize the feature once downloaded and paired with an S24 device. However, it is still uncertain if the buds have received these updates.

Backward Compatibility with Older Devices

In the meantime, Live Translate and other Galaxy AI features have been made available on older Samsung devices through the latest One UI 6.1 software update.

This update extends compatibility to devices such as the S23 and S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Tab S8 models. This ensures that a wider range of Samsung users can benefit from these advanced AI capabilities.

Upcoming Samsung Unpacked Event

Samsung is expected to provide more details about the Galaxy AI features later this week during the Samsung Unpacked event scheduled for July 10 and July 11. Alongside these announcements, new hardware releases are also anticipated, further showcasing Samsung's commitment to innovation and enhancing user experience with cutting-edge technology.
