News Synopsis

The National Highways for EVs inaugurated a miniature concept model of charging stations for electric vehicles for the first time that will replace conventional petrol pumps (fuel pumps) in the future. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari unveiled the miniature of this state-of-the-art EV charging station developed by NHEV.

The NHEV Miniature Model of Charging Station is the first ever model in the industry, which is envisioned as a comprehensive roadside facility plaza, providing new insights into the existing/conventional petrol pumps and roadside amenities available on highways. Thinks outright and can replace them. This has emerged as an initiative of Ease of Doing Business (EODB). EODB is already trying to upgrade 5000 km of National Highways to e-highways through its pilot project called National Highways for EVs (NHEV).

The pilot project is currently in its final stages of technical and commercial trials with buses and long-distance electric SUVs on the Delhi-Jaipur section from 9 September 2022. This will add a distance of 278 km to the 210 km tech-trial run held earlier between Delhi-Agra in 2021. Due to this a total of 500 km of technical testing will be completed in this pilot project in four states UP, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
During the inaugural address, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, "For the last 3-4 years I have been talking about Electric Vehicles and answering many questions like if we are traveling in Electric Vehicle. And what if it breaks? However it didn't happen and slowly with the increasing confidence in technology, the questions got answered themselves. Now there is a waiting period for electric cars and scooters and I can say that electricity is the fuel of the future. Presently the price of electric double-decker ac bus is coming to Rs 60 per km. The price of non-ac is Rs 39 per km and normal electric ac bus is Rs 41 per km and diesel bus is priced at Rs 115 per km If you can give passengers business class convenience in a trolley electric bus at an affordable ticket cost, it will make public transport more efficient for the users."
