News Synopsis

On December 16, the American streaming service Netflix will premiere a  new show The Recruit. Noah Centineo, Katharine King So, Victor Andres Turgeon-Trelles, Alexandra Petrachuk, Amanda Ip, Jamaal Grant, and Andy Assaf are among the actors who feature in the spy thriller. For his role in the Netflix film series To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Centineo is widely recognized.

According to senior executives at some of these platforms, American movies, TV shows, and programs in Turkish, German, and Korean, as well as their dub versions, are becoming a major draw on over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services, accounting for as much as 30% of all viewers.

Younger city dwellers in Indian metros are ready to consume such worldwide content, but those in smaller cities benefit from their dubbed versions in both Hindi and regional languages.

Extraction and The Kissing Booth from Netflix as well as The Boys, The Tomorrow War, Wonder Woman, and Parasite from Amazon have all been popular in Hindi and Tamil. In order to expand its reach, Walt Disney has also decided to target smaller cities by making Disney+ content (including Marvel) accessible even on its more affordable price plans in India.

While a few niches, foreign-language TV channels, and torrent websites on the Internet had previously introduced Indians to overseas content, OTT platforms have helped to improve accessibility.

While the creation of such global content on OTT has oversaturated metro audiences, small cities have recently started adopting a style for what could be considered cool and is a topic of social media debate. Given that some large houses don't have many TVs, Covid has also made sure that people are exposed to a lot more issues on the cellphone.

While TV served as the inspiration for international programming, OTT has the luxury of connecting to customers directly and tailoring recommendations using artificial intelligence and machine learning.
