As the government focuses on the development of 10,000 new farmer produce organisations (FPOs), a significant number of small farmers in the nation would be directly tied to the food-processing and agricultural value chain associated with exports, stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the opening ceremony of Rs 1,000 crore worth of dairy projects at Sabar Dairy, near Himatnagar in north Gujarat.

According to the PM, the government has distributed more than 3 crore kisan credit cards nationwide over the last two years, not just to farmers but also to milk producers and fishermen. The Gujarat government's Jyotigram Yojana, which aims to provide rural areas with quality, 24-hour power in three phases, has had a favourable effect, according to the PM.

The effort, according to the PM, has increased milk output in Gujarat. “Due to availability of uninterrupted electricity, numerous milk-chilling units have been set up in the state. As a result, not only has wastage of milk been reduced, but milk production too has increased. Besides, increased irrigation facilities have also boosted animal husbandry activities in Gujarat,” he said.

The prime minister also addressed the rise in ethanol blending in gasoline, which has gone from 400 million litres to as much as 4,000 million litres in the previous eight years. “Promotion of cattle-rearing, fisheries and honey production has increased income of farmers, especially landless and smaller farmers, ” he said. PM Modi opened a massive milk powder facility at Sabar dairy that cost 305 crore rupees to build. The facility can make 120 tonnes of milk powder every day. He also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 30-tonne per day cheese and whey processing plant as well as the inauguration of a 300,000 litre per day ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk plant.

Sabar Dairy is a subsidiary of GCMMF, which also owns Amul, India's top food and FMCG brand. Additionally, it holds the eighth-largest position among dairy organisations globally. In addition to improving the availability of high-quality milk and milk products, our new milk powder plant, the UHT milk plant, and the cheese and whey-processing plant will also assist to increase the incomes of farmers and milk producers.
