News Synopsis

Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath also known as KK died in Kolkata on Tuesday night. He was 53 years old and survived by his wife and two sons.

The singer was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead by doctors. A senior official of the hospital said, “KK was brought to the hospital around 10 pm. It's unfortunate that we could not treat him.” Doctors at the hospital said that they suspected cardiac arrest to be the reason for the death.

KK performed for almost an hour in the evening at a university-sponsored concert in Nazrul Mancha in south Kolkata. After arriving at the hotel, he felt "heavy" and soon collapsed, officials said.

KK, who was on a two-day tour to Kolkata, also performed at Nazur Mancha on Monday night at a concert hosted by another college. He was scheduled to return to New Delhi on Wednesday.

A police team was stationed outside the hospital to manage KK fans who gathered after hearing the news of his death. The playback singer's popular Bollywood numbers include "Ancon Mein Teri" (Om Shanti Om), "Zara Sa" (Jannat), and "Kuda Jaane" (Bachana Ae Hasino), and "Tadap Tadap" (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam).
