Yogi Adityanath the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh met with Mohan Bhagwat the head of the RSS on Thursday. It is reported that the two leaders discussed the population issue. Sources suggest that Bhagwat and Chief Minister Adityanath spent an hour together after Adityanath traveled from Lucknow to see Bhagwat.

They said that both parties discussed the population issue after going to lunch together and shortly after the CM left. The RSS member was also invited by Adityanath to join Deepotsav on October 23 in Ayodhya.

Dattatreya Hosabale the leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said on Wednesday that migration from Bangladesh and religious conversion were the two primary factors leading to "population imbalance" and that strong application of anti-conversion laws was needed.

From October 16 to 19, Bhagwat was present at a meeting of the RSS where the population issue was addressed.

The Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission had tried to present Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with a proposal population control bill last year and made a number of recommendations including giving public employees more incentives to follow the one-child rule and barring those who break the two-child rule from running in town council elections.

The 19th report on Population Control Stability and Welfare included the recommendations. The CM received the report and the original Uttar Pradesh Population Control Stability and Welfare Bill 2021. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that the country will back the RSS's issues over the population problem and noted that whatever issue the RSS raises is always in the national interest.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath passed a new population-related bill this week. A drastic measure was taken by the government to counteract the population in Uttar Pradesh. The bill proposes denying government job promotions subsidies and the right to contest local elections to anyone who has more than two children.  with the overarching idea of this bill is rooted in overpopulation which is a major area of concern in India however there are some possible loopholes that might be obstacles to its implementation.  

Many contests if the image of a less crowded place comes at a much larger cost. Female infanticide is an issue that still exists in the country. The inability to have a male child even after 2 children can lead to more unsafe pregnancies and even a rises in cases of female infanticide. This then puts pressure on women and deprives them of agency over their bodies as many would be forced to have unsafe and sex-selective abortions.  Similar 2 child policies have been implemented at different times in the past by various MPs.

but were revoked shortly after due to loopholes and the inability to administer them. It will be an interesting turn of events to see if UP has the same fate or comes out on top with a foolproof plan for population control.
