News Synopsis

Time is never stagnant and so is technology, technology, and modern science has always remained dynamic, and this dynamics has led the world to a point where scientists and researchers have found a keen interest in using hydrogen as a fuel, a fuel for the future. Research and development across the planet have shown promising results of liquid hydrogen having the capabilities of being a replacement for current fossil fuel, diesel, and petrol.

Apart from the fact that hydrogen is very promising, there are some elemental issues that need to be addressed, the fact that hydrogen is flammable and its storage in its elemental form requires a high-end storage structure which is not cost-effective. Even though hydrogen is high in energy content, it has an extremely low density and occupies a large volume. These concerns are always a topic of discussion in the energy sector, until these issues are not resolved, the planet cannot completely switch to hydrogen fuel.

Presently in India, hydrogen is produced and stored in locations near its usage points, for example, places such as oil refineries, ammonia production factories.

However with the growing demand and usage, the country needs to find a solution to the issues with relation to hydrogen storage, news has emerged that NTPC Ltd. is working on the infrastructure of hydrogen-powered buses in Ladakh. Various other corporate agencies have shown keen interest in the same direction. Hydrogen is a cost-effective fuel and can help improve the economy of the country by proving to be eco-friendly and readily available, storage concerns remain an issue.
