Google is Creating a New Unit of Blockchain Technology
News Synopsis
Google is creating its own blockchain unit showing the interest of the tech giant in cryptocurrencies and their underlying technologies. The information was released by a leaked email that said that the new unit will focus on blockchain and other next-generation distributed computing data storage technologies.
Google has appointed Shivakumar Venkataraman as the leader of the new unit. Google has banned cryptocurrency companies and not allowed users to pay for its product and services with crypto. With CEO Sundar Pichai’s conservative leadership style, the tech giant is finally appearing to have an interest in cryptocurrency technologies.
The report claims that the new blockchain unit will sit in the company’s relatively new labs division. The labs were formed after its re-org in November 2021 under the leadership of VP Clay Bavor, who was in charge of the company’s experiments in VR and AR along with holographic videoconferencing platform Project Starline.
