Emmy Awards: Lee Jung-jae of Squid Game Is First Asian To Win Best Drama Actor 

Lee Jung-Jae, from Squid Game, has won the Emmy Award 2022 for best male actor in drama. The South Korean actor won the role of Seong Gi-hun, a desperate character in the Netflix hit series. Hwang Donghyuk, the show's creator and the first Asian to win the award for best drama series director, was also awarded the prize.

Ted Lasso was awarded best comedy series for the second consecutive year, while Succession won outstanding drama for the same year. Jesse Armstrong, the drama's British creator, made a joke about the monarchy in his acceptance speech to the most prestigious ceremony for the US television industry.

He laughed and said, "It's a big week for successions – new King in the UK, this is for us."  "Evidently a bit more voting involved in our winning than Prince Charles." After the audience had become quite quiet, Brian Cox, the show's star, said to him, "Keep it Royalist, Keep It Royalist."

Armstrong added, "I'm not saying that we're any more legitimate in our position than he is. We'll leave that to other people."

Matthew Macfadyen was also a Succession cast member. He won Best Supporting Drama Actor for his portrayal as Tom Wambsgans (an ambitious interloper), which he described as a "bonkers gift" of a part. Cox was unable to replicate the win last year and lost out to Squid Game's Lee.

Along with Zendaya Seyfried and Amanda Seyfried, Michael Keaton as well as Julia Garner, Jean Smart, Brett Goldstein, a fellow Briton was one of the acting winners.
