Ashneer Grover CEO Of BharatPe Launches Fantasy Cricket Platform "CrickPe"

Ashneer Grover, the co-founder and former CEO of fintech startup BharatPe, took to Twitter on Thursday to launch his new endeavour, CrickPe, a fantasy cricket platform.

This comes about a year after he and his wife, Madhuri Jain, established their own firm, Third Unicorn, in Delhi. Grover coined the term "Third Unicorn" after assisting in the expansion of two companies,  Blinkit (previously Grofers) and BharatPe, became unicorns, or startups valued at or exceeding $1 billion.

Aseem Ghavri joined Jain and Grover as their third co-founder later on. Ghavri created Code Brew Labs in 2013, an enterprise application development startup that offered early technology to BharatPe, the financial firm formed by Grover and Shashvat Nakrani. Despite he had never met Grover before, a cold message Ghavri just wrote to Grover got him the position of co-founder in Third Unicorn.

“Biggest revolution in cricket since (the) Indian Premier League (IPL) —- (the) only fantasy game paying cricketers for performance! Where you win —- cricketer wins -— cricket wins!”  Grover tweeted on Thursday night. According to CrickPe’s website, it is an app to play cricket online. Users may construct a virtual squad of the finest in-game real players, participate in contests, and receive points based on their actual game performance.

In short, a user will receive more points based on how well their team's players perform in a live match. According to the website, the user would be able to make real-time decisions and “invest their intelligence and time throughout the game,” “The fantasy sports industry is booming, and CrickPe is unfurling the magic of online cricket across India,”   the company said.

CrickPe's introduction coincides with the start of the IPL season on March 31. CrickPe will compete against established competitors in the space, such as My11Circle, A23, PlayerzPot, Dream11, MPL, and others. The fantasy gaming market, on the other hand, has been scrutinised by authorities in order to strike a balance between skill games and gambling.

CrickPe intends to hire no more than 50 people in total and will operate on a flat structure with no classifications. Grover's next initiative, FE previously reported, will be in the business-to-consumer (B2C) sector, and that he had already engaged numerous staff. “At Third Unicorn, we want the people to play a 360-degree role. So, if required, a tech guy can go out and do marketing and vice-versa. People should be open to challenges,”  Ghavri stated.
