All Civilians evacuated from Mariupol's Azovstal Steel Plant
News Synopsis
On Saturday, amidst the ongoing Russian-Ukraine Conflict, a Ukraine official informed that all civilians, including women, children, and elderly individuals, that were trapped in the Azovstal Steel plant in Mariupol have been evacuated.
According to CNN, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshechuk, in a statement said, "The order of the president has been done. This part of the Mariupol humanitarian operation has been completed." According to CNN, Chief of Mariupol Patrol Police Chief Mykhailo Verhynin announced that the evacuation was executed "without incident," though Ukrainian forces still remain inside the steel plant, blocked by Russian troops.
Earlier this week, Russian troops continued their attacks on the steel plant, where civilians have been trapped for weeks. The attacks come after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops not to storm the steel plant out of concern for the safety of his country's forces.
The Russian President said, "This is the case when we have to think, that is, we always have to think, and in this case even more so, about preserving the lives and health of our soldiers and officers. There is no need to climb into these catacombs and crawl underground through these industrial facilities."
