News Synopsis

LG Electronics has announced the rollout of the Xbox app for a select range of its smart TVs, allowing users to stream and play games directly without the need for a gaming console. This update is part of a broader partnership between LG and Microsoft that began earlier in 2025, aiming to make cloud gaming more accessible.

Available Platforms and Compatibility

The Xbox app will be accessible via the LG Gaming Portal and LG Apps on TVs and monitors running webOS 24 or newer. Additionally, LG confirmed the app will soon expand to its StanbyME lineup of portable screens. Initially, the app is supported on 2022 LG OLED models and 2023 OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD smart TVs, provided they have been updated to software version 23.20.01 or later.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Required

To use the Xbox app, users must have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. This subscription unlocks access to a wide variety of games from popular studios like Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, and Xbox Game Studios. The app supports cloud gaming, so all players need is a compatible controller to start playing hundreds of high-quality titles.

No Console Needed, Just a Controller

According to LG, the integration of the Xbox app allows users to “jump straight into gameplay from day one,” simplifying access to blockbuster games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Avowed, South of Midnight, and the upcoming Towerborne. Users can also stream select titles from their personal library, adding flexibility to the gaming experience.

Global Availability

Currently, the Xbox cloud gaming service via the LG app is available in over 25 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, South Korea, Australia, and several others across Europe and North America. However, LG has clarified that this service is not yet available in India.

Game Streaming Enhancements on the Horizon

Microsoft is actively improving its cloud gaming ecosystem. Recent announcements highlight new Xbox platform features, such as the ability to purchase games, Game Pass subscriptions, and add-ons directly through the Xbox app on Android and iOS. These improvements are aimed at enhancing the user experience across all devices.

Expansion of Xbox Remote Play

Another key update involves the expansion of Xbox Remote Play. Soon, players will be able to stream their Xbox console games through web browsers on mobile devices, Samsung smart TVs, and Amazon Fire TV devices. With LG now joining the list, the gaming experience becomes even more seamless across different platforms.

Conclusion: LG Strengthens Its Gaming Ecosystem

With the Xbox app beta now available on its smart TVs, LG Electronics takes a significant step toward offering an all-in-one entertainment hub. The inclusion of cloud gaming without a console opens up new possibilities for casual and hardcore gamers alike, further strengthening LG’s appeal in the gaming market.
