News Synopsis

The Tata Nexon, renowned for its consistent dominance in the Indian SUV market, faced a subdued beginning to FY25. Despite its esteemed status, it fell short of the top 10 best-selling cars in April, signaling a departure from its usual sales trajectory.

Tata Nexon Slow Start to FY25:

The Tata Nexon commenced the fiscal year 2025 at a sluggish pace, failing to secure a position among the top 10 best-selling cars in India for April.

Despite its reputation for high volumes, the Nexon's absence from the list highlights a deviation from its usual sales performance.

April Sales Figures:

According to sources from India Today, the Tata Nexon ranked as the 11th largest-selling car in India for April, with sales totaling 11,168 units. This figure falls short of the SUV's average monthly wholesales of 14,308 units achieved during the previous fiscal year, FY24.

Previous Sales Performance:

Over the past three years, the Tata Nexon has consistently held the title of the top-selling SUV in India. In FY24 alone, it recorded impressive volumes of 171,697 units, maintaining its strong performance over consecutive fiscal years.

Market Competition and Pricing:

Positioned competitively in the market, the Tata Nexon competes with popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Priced between Rs 8.15 lakh and Rs 15.80 lakh (ex-showroom), it offers a compelling value proposition in its segment.

Engine Options and Transmission:

The Tata Nexon is equipped with a Revotron 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, delivering 120PS and 170Nm of torque.

Multiple transmission options are available, including 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT, and 7-speed DCA. Additionally, it offers a Revotorq 1.5-litre diesel engine option.

Electric Variant:

Apart from its conventional variants, the Tata Nexon is also available in an electric version, known as the Tata Nexon.ev.

It comes in Medium Range and Long Range variants, offering claimed ranges of 325km and 465km respectively on a single full charge.

Pricing and Competition in Electric Segment:

  • The Tata Nexon.ev is priced between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom), competing with electric SUVs like the Mahindra XUV400 and MG ZS EV.

Safety Features:

  • Similar to other Tata models like the Safari and Harrier, the Nexon boasts a five-star safety rating from Global NCAP.

  • It offers advanced safety features including six airbags, a 360-degree surround view system, blind view monitor, electronic stability control (ESC), and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
