Production of COVAXIN temporarily Slowed Down by Bharat Biotech

One of the leading Biotechnology companies in India- Bharat Biotech, on Friday, informed that it will temporarily slow down the production of its Covid vaccine- Covaxin. The company took this decision as it fulfilled its supply obligations to procurement agencies and foreseeing the decrease in demand. Prior to this announcement, Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya told that because of effective management of Covid and an extensive vaccination campaign, the country has effectively tackled the Omicron wave which wreaked havoc in other countries. While replying to a question in the lower house of the Parliament, Lok Sabha, Mr. Mandaviya said the ICMR has regularly guided the country and contributed to vaccine-related research leading to India having its own indigenous vaccine. Mandaviya in his statement said: "It was under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance that India saw best Covid management and largest vaccination drive... While Omicron caused numerous deaths in other countries, India sailed through the Omicron wave because of vaccination.” Currently, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, etc are witnessing a massive resurgence of covid infections. A few days back China imposed a lockdown in its largest city- Shanghai to curb the spread of infection.
