PM Narendra Modi Assumes The G20 Presidency From Indonesia

Following the end of the two-day G20 summit 2022 of the leaders of the bloc in Bali on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was handed the G20 presidency by Indonesian President Joko Widodo to thunderous applause.

Widodo stated in his concluding remarks that the Group of 20 major economies adopted a joint declaration and created further partnerships. Later, he presented PM Modi the presidency gavel. Beginning on December 1, India will hold the presidency officially.

According to Prime Minister Modi, every Indian should be proud of their country for assuming the G20 leadership. “Together with every countries’ efforts, we can make the G20 summit a catalyst for global welfare,”, he stated.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra claimed that India had made "valuable contributions" to the preparation of the G20 "outcome document."

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, USA, and the European Union  (EU) are among the 19 nations that make up the G20. Together, they represent two-thirds of the world's population, 75% of global trade, and more than 80% of the world's GDP.

Among those who attended the three-day summit were French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and US President Joe Biden.

PM Modi stated that India's G20 Presidency will be based on the theme "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," or "One Earth, One Family, One Future," prior to his visit to Bali.
