Military Coup In Burkina Faso, Protesters Burnt The Embassy

Military Coup in World: The French Embassy was attacked by irate protesters in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso in West Africa. Supporters of the country's new coup leader Captain Ibrahim Traore have accused France of harboring ousted interim president Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba. However, the French authorities have dismissed the allegation. Soldiers in the country announced a military coup late Friday to oust Damiba, who became president, from power after just nine months. Damiba is accused of failing to deal with the growing violence of Islamic extremists.

Comments from a junta spokesman sparked anger in Ouagadougou on Saturday. Videos posted on social media showed residents carrying torches lit near the French embassy and other pictures showed flames rising on the premises.

In Bobo Diolaso, the second-largest city in Burkina Faso, angry mobs additionally ransacked a French institution. The whereabouts of Damiba are not known yet. However, the French Foreign Ministry issued a strongly worded statement saying, 'We formally deny any involvement in the developments in Burkina Faso. Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba never lived in the base where the French army was.

Traore told Voice of America, 'If we wanted, we would have captured him within five minutes of fighting and he probably would have died. But we do not want this destruction. We don't want to harm them because we don't have any personal problems with them. We are fighting for Burkina Faso.

The removal of Damiba from office amid a period of ambiguity was denounced by the world community. Damiba and his allies ousted a democratically elected president just nine months ago and came to power promising to make the country more secure. However, the violence continued and in recent months voices of dissatisfaction with his leadership had begun to rise.
