Hyundai Will Provide Eco-Friendly Passenger Transportation Fleet At FIFA WC 2022
News Synopsis
The biggest football tournament in the world, FIFA World Cup 2022, will benefit from Hyundai Motor's eco-friendly vehicles by supplying 50% of the event's passenger transportation, the South Korean automaker stated.
In a statement, Hyundai said that it would send 616 fleet vehicles to the tournament that will be held in Qatar. There will be 446 passenger vehicles in the fleet, 226 of which (226 units) are hybrid and battery electric (HEV) models. For use during the event, the company will also provide ten Elec City electric buses.
“By providing our eco-friendly hybrid and battery electric vehicles as ground transportation, we expect to achieve our shared goal of making the World Cup in Qatar a win-win for planet Earth and humanity,” stated Jaehoon Chang, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor.
In order to ensure stable EV operations, Hyundai Motor is setting up a dedicated organisation and support system. For the transportation of FIFA VIPs and staff, it will provide Hyundai IONIQ 5, Sonata HEV, Tucson HEV, KONA HEV, Genesis G80 EV, and GV70 EV vehicles. Elec City buses will transport media personnel.
Additionally, the company will provide roadside charging services for BEVs that have been discharged using the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability of two IONIQ 5 BEVs. To ensure the BEVs' ongoing operation, FIFA will provide 100 kW-150 kW EV chargers at the event's parking facilities located in Doha, Qatar.
A real-time vehicle control service is another method the corporation is using to improve fleet service quality control. All of the drivers involved in the fleet operation have been enrolled in a training programme about Hyundai Motor's HEVs and BEVs since October.
