HelpAge India Receives $1.3 Million Grant From MetLife Foundation

The MetLife Foundation has given American Friends of HelpAge India a donation of USD 1.3 million to help senior citizens in Bihar, West Bengal, and Puducherry. AFHI's partner organisation HelpAge India, which has been serving the needs of India's underprivileged elders for more than 44 years, will use this donation to support Project Saksham.

According to a press statement, this project will allow HelpAge India to offer more than 16,000 seniors practical, in-depth training in digital and financial literacy so they can access government benefit programs and use digital financial services with security and confidence.

HelpAge India will also offer extensive training, financial assistance, and access to high-quality primary healthcare services as part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure elder empowerment and dignity.

According to Pramod Bhasin, president of American Friends of HelpAge India, this will assist address some of the main issues facing elderly people in rural India holistically.

According to him, this grant greatly supports our attempts to mobilize more support for India's 138 million elders, 90% of whom work outside of the formal/organized sector and are sometimes disregarded in discussions of the country's overall development.

This project is special since it examines all potential vulnerabilities faced by elderly people living in rural areas, especially those with limited resources. According to Rohit Prasad, CEO of HelpAge India, these problems are interrelated and cannot be addressed in a vacuum.

Ashish Kumar Srivastava, MD and CEO at PNB MetLife, believes that the project will assist in bringing critical services to the underprivileged elders in rural India, who are among the most underserved groups of the population.
