News Synopsis

The United Kingdom is planning to discontinue the 2G and 3G mobile services, with the agreement of mobile network operators Vodafone, EE, Virgin Media, O2, and Three. EE owner BT has previously talked about discontinuing its 2G and 3G services by 2033. The government is funding to boost the future proof of the mobile network in the UK.

Assembly Researcher founder Matthew Howett said that the discontinuation may come sooner than its 2033 deadline. As the 5G coverage around the UK is being expanded, the government plans to provide better internet connectivity to its citizens. The mobile network company EE has also claimed to provide 5G “anywhere” in the country by 2028.
