News Synopsis

There are two sides to this story. One is about Rahul Gandhi’s account getting locked because he shared the picture of the parents of a sexual assault victim. Now, this is strictly against the law to share pictures of the victim or a picture of anyone related to the victim. So there’s absolutely no question as to whether Twitter did right or not. Anyone who breaks the law should be punished regardless of their position.

Now the flip side to the story is that some BJP leaders too shared the pictures but Twitter didn’t pull down their tweets or lock their accounts. This is sheer hypocrisy and the social media platform shouldn’t differentiate between people as they clearly stated that everyone is treated fairly. They should look into the matter and should also restrict the account of those BJP members who shared the victim’s picture. No victim should go through this ordeal and Twitter should immediately act on it to make sure her pictures aren’t shared by anyone, no matter their position in the society or cabinet.
