The Empire, revised from Rutherford’s 'Empire of the Moghul' by Bhavani Iyer and AM Turaz, directed by Mitakshara Kumar, starring an awfully attractive actor Dino Morea, Shabana Azmi, Drishti Dhami, and Kunal Kapoor amongst an oversized cast of others. The show isn't history and is much from plenty of what could have possibly happened. Just like the book, it's a historical fiction that is deeply rooted in a time and folks that existed only in our imagination. It is a piece of art that exists in a very comparative framework, also exists as a private artistic expression.
For the foremost part, people are fighting, cursing, dying, and crying and no one really cares about it. Some episodes in, once you recognize the plotline it redeems itself just in time. The show tells the story of Babur, a young king trying to say Samarkand within the face of danger, enemies, and instability. The show also focuses on his family and particularly his sister, her sacrifices and bravado, and this complete family’s back and forth with their ever-clinging nemesis, Shaybani Khan.
It is the story of deep ancestral and brotherly love and of the sacrifices and efforts made by women during centuries within the wars fought by men. Sacrifices, and efforts that were ignored in our history books and films.
