Tata Motors is set to launch the Altroz Racer, a sporty iteration of the premium hatchback. Debuting at Auto Expo 2023 and showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, the Altroz Racer features a new turbo petrol engine, design enhancements, and extra features, distinguishing it from the standard Altroz.
The Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, producing 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a brand-new 6-speed manual transmission, a first for the Altroz range. In contrast, the standard Altroz offers multiple powertrains, including:
A naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine generating 87 bhp and 115 Nm, available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.
A 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 89 bhp and 200 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
A 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 108 bhp, coupled with a 5-speed manual.
A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine for the CNG variant, producing 99 bhp and 103 Nm, with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Altroz Racer boasts a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, similar to the 2024 Punch EV and the updated Nexon. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The current Altroz, however, comes with a 7-inch infotainment system offering wired connectivity.
Both the Altroz Racer and the standard Altroz feature a 7-inch instrument cluster. However, the Altroz Racer sports an all-digital driver’s console with a multi-information screen, speedometer, turn-by-turn navigation alerts, tachometer, and fuel gauge.
It will also offer a head-up display, a feature previously exclusive to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in this segment. The standard Altroz has a semi-digital and analogue speedometer dial, providing door open alerts, odometer, mileage reader, fuel gauge, tachometer, and driving modes.
The Altroz Racer is equipped with numerous advanced features, including front-ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, an air purifier, and a voice-activated electric sunroof. It comes standard with six airbags, enhancing its safety credentials.
Both the Racer and the top models of the standard Altroz offer a wireless phone charger. While the standard Altroz features dual airbags, both variants share the same ALFA architecture and have received a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.
The Altroz Racer stands out with its sporty aesthetics, featuring a dual-tone paint scheme and two white stripes running from the bonnet to the roof. Additional design elements include Racer badges, new all-black 16-inch alloy wheels, and black leatherette seats with red and white racing stripes.
The standard Altroz already has a strong road presence with its chunky front fascia, sleek double barrel projector headlamps, and LED DRLs.
Conclusion
The Tata Altroz Racer offers significant enhancements over the standard Altroz, from a more powerful engine and improved transmission to advanced infotainment, instrument cluster, and additional safety features. Its sporty design and premium features make it a compelling choice for those looking for a performance-oriented hatchback.
