Surat to get India’s first Bullet Train Station

News Synopsis

Surat is set to be the first city to have a bullet train in India. The news was shared by the Union Miniter of State for Railways, Darshan Jardosh via a tweet in which he shares a graphical illustration of the railway station. The railway station is scheduled to be completed by December 2024. 

Darshan Jardosh wrote in his tweet, “Sharing with you all, 1st glimpse of graphical representation of Surat's Bullet Train station. The state-of-the-art multi-level station will have an external facade and the interiors of the station resemble a sparkling diamond - the pride of Surat city.”

It will be the first one built along the Mumbai-Ahemdabad route and will be the first bullet train project of India. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd has taken the responsibility for the construction of the project. Other than Surat, three more stations- Vapi, Bilimora and Bharuch have been accelerated. All the stations will be completed by 2024.

The bullet train stations will be situated at Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisor, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1 lakh crore, out of which 88,000 crore will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
