Russian President Vladimir Putin may attend the G20 Summit in India, which is scheduled for September of this year. But, no decision has been taken, according to Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Monday.
When asked if Putin was considering attending the Summit in India, a Kremlin spokeswoman stated, "It cannot be ruled out." "But no decision has been made yet," Peskov added, according to Russian news outlet Tass.
Russia maintains its full involvement in the G20 framework, we aim to continue it, Peskov stressed. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov led the Russian delegation at the G20 leaders' meeting last year.
G20 or the Group of 20 is an international gathering of the world's leading developed and developing economies. Members account for around 85% of global GDP, more than 75% of global commerce, and almost two-thirds of the global population.
The grouping contains Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union (EU).
Earlier this month, Lavrov attended a two-day G20 foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi. The meeting took place amid Russia's intensifying confrontation with the Western powers over the Ukrainian war and India's diplomatic tightrope walk on the subject.
The meeting was also attended by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, Germany's Annalena Baerbock, and British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.
Lavrov praised India's "highly responsible" and "worthy of a great power" position on critical global issues during a news briefing on the sidelines of the summit.
