News Synopsis

As it prepares to reopen its restaurants on Sunday, the Russian fast food chain that was formerly known as McDonald's in the country has revealed its new logo. The new logo consists of a circle and two lines that are said to represent a burger and two French fries.

The name of the chain has not yet been revealed, though a number of options have reportedly been considered. McDonald's announced its withdrawal from Russia in May due to the Ukraine conflict.

According to Russian state-owned news agency TASS, the Russian chain is set to reopen 15 restaurants this weekend, citing Sistema PBO, the firm that manages the business previously owned by McDonald's.

"The green background of the logo represents the quality of products and service that our guests have come to expect," a spokesperson for Sistema PBO told TASS.

Users on social media remarked that the new logo still looked like a "M." Others claimed that the new logo was inspired by the Bangladesh flag, which has a dark green background and a red circle in similar shades to the new logo.

According to the Russian newspaper Izvestia, Sistema PBO has submitted eight potential names for the new chain to Rospatent, the Russian government's intellectual property agency.
