Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sets Guinness World Record at UN Yoga Day Celebration
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi led the 9th International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations headquarters in New York, creating history by establishing a new Guinness World Record for the active participation of individuals from a diverse range of nationalities.
The event, which attracted widespread attention and acclaim, saw Prime Minister Modi addressing an enthusiastic crowd representing over 135 nations.
During his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight and gratitude, stating, "I'm delighted to see you all. And I thank you all for coming. Friends, I'm told that almost every nationality is represented here today." His words echoed the remarkable diversity and global appeal of Yoga as a unifying practice.
The Guinness World Records official adjudicator, Mr. Michael Empric, confirmed the achievement, stating, "Today there was a Guinness World Records title attempt for most nationalities in a Yoga lesson. The mark was 140 nationalities. Today in New York, at the UN, they have 135. It is a new Guinness World Records title." The recognition of this milestone further solidified the significance of the event and highlighted the inclusive nature of Yoga.

Officials confirmed that 1.53 lakh (153,000) individuals participated in a single Yoga session, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering for a yoga session at one location. This achievement surpassed the previous record set in 2018 when 100,984 individuals assembled in Rajasthan's Kota for a Yoga Day session.
