Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday stressed the need for innovation in the automobile industry for green alternatives to ensure safety and protection of the environment as well as help India become self-reliant. In a written address to the annual session of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), PM Modi said that, "Amrit Kaal is an opportunity to achieve self-reliance in every sector and the automobile sector is no exception."

The Prime Minister's message was read out by the President of SIAM, Kenichi Ayukawa. In this message, PM Modi said that the automobile sector has contributed to the all-round development of the economy through new opportunities for employment generation. Modi said, "It is the need of the hour that the innovation of the automobile industry for green alternatives should gain a new impetus, ensuring safety and protection of the environment as well as helping to make India self-reliant."

He also expressed hope that various stakeholders including industry experts, manufacturers and policy makers, who attended the conference, would deliberate to develop a blueprint for the future for the automobile sector.

Modi added that the automobile industry has created new opportunities for employment creation, which has helped the economy grow and flourish on all fronts.

"Our government has adopted an enabling approach towards creating a global manufacturing hub by encouraging manufacturers to "Make in India'," he continued.
