Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar established a 'DigiClaim' platform under the national crop insurance site on Thursday to expedite the payment of claims to insured farmers. The Minister also transferred insurance claim totaling Rs 1,260.35 crore to insured farmers in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana at the press of a button on the occasion, according to an official statement.
There have been multiple instances in the existing system of insured farmers' claims being delayed owing to a number of reasons. The Agricultural Ministry has developed the DigiClaim module in order to improve farmer welfare and speed up the claim disbursement procedure, according to the ministry.
“It is a matter of pride for our ministry to have taken a revolutionary step in ensuring that farmers can receive claim amounts digitally in a time bound and automated manner, thereby making our farmers Aatmanirbhar and Sashakt.” Tomar said. He added that to date, Rs 1.32 lakh crore in claims have been disbursed to insured farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The Minister stated that the Centre is closely engaging with the states that have departed the PMFBY and that the government has spoken with key officials from the state governments. The governments of Andhra Pradesh and Punjab are making a comeback to the scheme, which is a wonderful example of cooperative federalism.
Telangana, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand have also been requested to join the PMFBY, and conversations are ongoing. Telangana and Jharkhand, among these states, have indicated a readiness to return to PMFBY, he noted.
Farmers' claims will now be handled directly to their bank accounts using the DigiClaim platform in a transparent and accountable manner. The combination of the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) with the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) has allowed this technology.
This would have a direct influence on the claim reversal ratio, which is predicted to drop as a result of DigiClaim. Another notable aspect of this digital innovation is that farmers will be able to follow the claim settlement process on their mobile phones in real-time and enjoy the advantages of the scheme.
