Over the past few weeks, many cases of COVID-19 have been found among children below the age of 18. The recent case is another example of that. Maharashtra is one of the states that has been recording a high number of COVID-19 cases in India. This could be the potential sign of the third wave. Therefore, it’s highly important that to start the vaccination of children and youngsters below the age of 18. Till now only people above the age of 18 could get vaccination but now since more children are falling sick due to COVID-19, it’s high time that they should get vaccinated too.
But the onus of this cannot be completely put on the GOI since research is still going on about the vaccine for children. It is reported that vaccination for children below the age of 18 would only get approved by the end of 2021. India is also going in the trial stage of Covovax for children. Many states are recruiting volunteers. The trial would be held across 10 sites and would cover more than 900 children. If the trial goes successful, we can expect an early start in vaccination for children.
