News Synopsis

Microsoft is testing ads in the Windows 11 File Explorer. It was discovered in the latest Windows 11 "Insider" build that anyone can try. A Twitter user has found an ad for another Microsoft product called Editor,  a closed source grammar checking tool. There are both free and paid versions, and the ads in  File Explorer are slightly more egregious.

This is not the first time Microsoft has displayed ads in File Explorer. Earlier, it ran a OneDrive ad in 2016, asking users to sign in to cloud storage service.

However,  File Explorer ads can be a controversial decision for Microsoft. Some users of social media have already begun protesting, and some say that they will switch to Linux if Microsoft makes advertisements official.

However, users do not seem too pleased with the decision as the update has not been well received by users so far. It can also lead the tech giant to end the experiment by seeing the feedback.
