News Synopsis

Instagram is testing a new feature that will allow the creators on the platform to monetise their content. The new feature is called ‘Subscription’, through which Instagram users can subscribe for exclusive content from their favourite creators.

The social media platform is currently testing this feature with a small group of creators in the USA and is planning to expand the feature and include more creators in a few weeks.

Under the new feature, the users will have to pay a monthly subscription fee to get access to the exclusive content of the creator including lives, stories and a purple badge that will show their status as a subscriber.

The creators will be free to choose their prices from the price range of $0.99 to $99 per month. Instagram is not charging anything to creators till 2023.

Other than Instagram, YouTube has had subscriptions for a while now. Outside of social media platforms, websites like Patreon, Kickstarter, Ko-Fi and some other options allow the content creators to monetise their content.
