News Synopsis

Global warming is at an all-time high, and the topic of pollution is simply slipping out of people's minds. Countries around the world are bringing in more strict laws and policies regarding pollution and the environment. Yet India has remained low-key when it comes to environmental preservation. We all know about the Aarey forest controversy that took place a few months back. The measure to stop such things from happening is provided by the government but still, we end up hearing about the news where different cities of India come under the pollution radar. We all hear about regressive industrial policy and laws that the Indian government still upholds strongly.

So shutting down old coal plants will not only save huge money but will also help reduce pollution to a huge extent. Old coal plants consume more coal to produce power as compared to the ones that were recent establishment. The newer plants will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, clean up the country’s air and reduce water as well as soil pollution. All this will help India move towards a more eco-friendly future.

India currently is the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. India is also among one of the most polluted countries in the world. Shutting down old coal plants will surely help India wash off its bad reputation regarding pollution and environment preservation.
