The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) has been ranked first in India and 149th in the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2024. This is the first time that IIT Bombay has ranked within the top 150 in the QS rankings.

The institute scored an overall score of 51.7 out of 100, with its highest scores coming in the areas of employer reputation (81.9), citation per faculty (73.1), and academic reputation (55.5). IIT Bombay also scored well in the areas of employment outcome (47.4), sustainability (54.9), and faculty-student ratio (18.9). However, the institute's scores in the areas of international faculty (4.7), international research network (8.5), and international students (1.4) were lower.

Speaking about the achievement, Professor Subhasis Chaudhari, Director of IIT Bombay, said, "Excellence in teaching and research is the key driving point for IIT Bombay. Our efforts lie in providing an ambience and infrastructure that is conducive to achieving excellence by our students and faculty. Achieving a higher rank is just a byproduct and is never a goal. I am sure IIT Bombay still has miles to go, and we are walking."
